Quilting Buddy

Here we are, heading into the last week of April, and I haven’t blogged at all yet this month!  What can I say, it’s been a busy month with various family events and non-quilting tasks.  Most of my limited quilting time was taken up making things I can’t share yet. Here’s all I can show you of that sewing:

Trimmings

I thought I would get some things done that I could share, but my sewing machine started misbehaving again, sewing very fast all by itself after I released the foot pedal.  The machine spent time at the shop, where of course it behaved quite beautifully, making it difficult for the technician to pinpoint the problem and confirm that it was fixed.  I had taken a video when it misbehaved at home so at least they could see what was happening. Anyway, no sewing happened while the machine was at the shop, and none again after it came home and misbehaved again.  When I went back to the shop again I was loaned a machine to use while they overhaul my machine’s insides, but now I’m catching up on the secret sewing that didn’t get done so there are still no new projects to share here.

I can share progress on an old project though.  Hand quilting stalled for a while, but I have made progress again in the last two weeks.  Here’s the progress chart for my son’s quilt.

I have a buddy cheering me on now, so maybe I’ll get faster.

I’m not so sure about Rosie’s other favourite spot though. Maybe she’s part cat. The paw on my back was rather distracting so I’m discouraging this particular habit!

I’m off for a bit of quiet sewing on this quilt now.  I missed my original goal of finishing by mid-April. How about June?

  1. Hi Joanne, nice to see you! Your little helper is very cute... I was wondering if your machine problem was also due to your Rosie - our little guy sat down on my foot while I was sewing yesterday - oops, full steam ahead!!

  2. A kaleidoscope quilt is on my list, and I'm intrigued by your use of color to create a border (the black). This is a spectacularly beautiful quilt.

  3. What a great companion for quilting! Sorry to hear about the machine issues.... never fun when you don't have the machine there just in case you want to sew. Good luck with the secret project.

  5. From what I see in those pictures, you've accomplished quite a lot even without a machine. I'm curious about what all those triangles are for; guess I'll just have to wait and see, right? Have fun with them. ---"Love"

  6. What a pain to have your sewing machine in the shop twice! As far as the hand quilting goes, you ARE making progress, so even though it's not going as fast as hoped for, you can't complain too much. I think your quilting buddy wants to really help as she keeps putting a paw out. Or, maybe it's her way of saying that she wants her own quilt.

  7. Slow and steady wins the race. With Miss Rosie supervising your work I'm sure you'll get the job done! What a nuisance having a machine that misbehaves.

  8. Rosie is too too cute Joanne! She is quite your little sewing companion. What a crazy month you had and what a bummer about your sewing machine's foibles. Love how you are keeping track of you beautiful kaleidoscope quilt's progress. Can't wait to see what your secret sewing was.

  9. Your cheering squad is super cute. You are making good progress. It has taken me years to hand quilt bed quilts in the past. Hopefully your machine gets fixed soon. My machine did that once. My dealer told me that most often in it something in the pedal that gets stuck.

  10. Your are making progress and your little buddy is adorable! Sorry your machine is acting up, mine is an extension of me, so it really bugs me when it is in the shop.
