Very yellow

What happens when you use lots of yellow (OK, all yellow) for a quilt background?  You get a very yellow quilt.

That's my latest "Well DUH!" moment.  I put the finished top on the bed and said "Oh my, that's a lot of yellow!" Don't ask me what I thought it would be.  Maybe I thought the gray sashing and black stars would tone it all down.  Perhaps I was more excited about yellow when I started this a year ago.  The pieces have been in a box for most of the last 10 months.  That's plenty of time for my colour mood to change, apparently!

It's hard to see from this picture, but there are actually several different yellows in there to add a little interest.  At least that was the plan.  Now I just see plain old yellow!

It's too big for me to quilt in my tiny corner, so I'm sending it off to a long armer on Wednesday.  I've never sent a quilt out for quilting before, and I'm having a bit of trouble letting go of the control that comes from doing it all myself, but I have accepted that this is the only way this quilt will be finished.  Hopefully the quilting will make me fall in love with this again.

  1. Use it in the winter--when the days are dull and gray and it will bring sunshine

  2. I do see the different shades of yellow in the pictures and I think it is very beautiful on that bed. Congrats on finishing the top. It is beautiful, really beautiful! ;^)

  3. I had the same 'duh' moment when I started cutting the tan on my summer quilt. At least I realized it would be a TAN quilt if I continued that way. But I swear it's not that obvious when you're in the thick of it!

I understand your angst of sending it elsewhere. I'm sure it will come out nicely. And all that yellow looks great in that blue room.

  4. I love it with your blue walls. It's beautiful. I had to find a new quilter a while ago and that was hard! A lot of trust is needed! :)

  7. It is a very pretty yellow quilt, I really like the pattern. Maybe after it is quilted you will feel differently about it. Sometimes I don't like a quilt until after the quilting is done. What color thread do you want it quilted with? That could make a world of difference in the way it comes out. I have never had someone else do the quilting but it is more of a cost issue for me, I'm just cheap. Although I know one day I will not want to do my own quilting and have to find someone to do it for me. You did a beautiful job piecing the quilt and I hope you love it when it comes back all quilted.

  11. Yep, lots of yellow in a quilt makes for a very yellow quilt. I know exactly how those things sneak up on you! But it's a beautiful quilt and looks great in that room with the blue walls (even if that's not where it's destined to live). I'm sure you've researched the quilter you'll send this out to and it will come back looking amazing. And free up your time to do something else!

  13. I am NOT a fan of yellow....and can only "take" it with gray, black or white....so I think this quilt is quite lovely. Is this your original pattern? I hope the longarm quilter does it justice. Blessings....

  14. That is a lot of yellow, but it sure is cheerful. I think it looks good now, but will blend even more once it is quilted.
