Are you ready for a quilt-along (QAL)?
You're invited to the City Line QAL. From September 21st to October 26th I'll share weekly blog posts and links to helpful tutorials as we piece a quilt from my City Line pattern.
This QAL is a little different from the two I hosted in the past. This one is not a mystery, but rather uses an existing pattern. Read on to see your questions answered.
What is the format?
I'll break the pattern down into 6 parts, sewing one part per week over six weeks. I'll share a short discussion in weekly blog posts and links to new and existing tutorials I think will be helpful to complete the week's tasks.
How time intensive will it be?
I think it will be an easy pace. You should be able to complete each week's step in 2 hours or less. This of course depends on your sewing speed.
Do we have to tune in at a specific time?
You can check out the weekly blog post whenever is convenient for you. You can read it and start sewing right away when the post is published at 9 a.m. on Monday morning, or you can wait until the night before the next week's post, or anytime in between. You can even skip and catch up by sewing two weeks' worth at once.
What size is the finished quilt?
The pattern as written is for a throw quilt measuring 56.5" x 70". However, if you register, I'll send information about the alternate bed-sized versions pictured above. Those details are currently exclusive to the QAL.
Will there be kits?
I do not sell fabric and have no kits to sell.
What fabric should we use?
You can choose any fabric you like. The four mockups above use fabrics from various Fundamentals collections from White Owl Textiles. When you register for the QAL, I'll send you details about the fabrics in each of these mockups, or you can use the mockups as inspiration as you browse your stash or local shop for colours. You could choose prints for a different look, rather than the tone-on-tone fabrics I have chosen. I chose the blue version above. The background photo shows the fabrics.
Please refer to the pattern for fabric amounts. Fabric amounts for alternate sizes will be shared when you register for the QAL.
Is there a cost to participate?
Yes and no.
The blog posts and tutorials will be free to access on this blog. However, the posts will not include measurements or cutting charts so you will need to purchase the pattern to follow along. Sharing it free of charge would not be fair to those who have bought the pattern or to shops who sell it. If you already own a copy, you're good to go!
If I own the pattern and the blog posts are free to access, why register?
If you register, you will receive an email every Monday at 9 a.m. Central Time with links to the blog post and tutorials so you don't have to search for them. You will also receive the color inspiration details and alternate size information.
Registration also helps me see how many quilters chose to participate, which helps me plan for possible future activities. Thank you for helping me with that!
Where and how can I register?
Click here to go to the regisatration page. Registration is free. All you need to share is your first name and email address so I can send you the weekly emails. Please know I will never share your email with anyone.
Where can I share my progress and cheer on other quilters?
If you have a blog, please share there and let me know. I'll share a link in the next week's post.
You can also share on social media using the hastag #citylineqal.
You can also join the Quilting with Canuck Quilter Facebook group if you are on Facebook. There was a lot of sharing there during previous QAL.
If you don't share online, don't worry. You can still enjoy making the quilt and sharing with your in-person friends!
